Dog fitness Question number seven. I don’t have time to exercise my dog. You have kids to get to school or work to get to, who knows what else? Soccer, games, dance, you know the list is goes on and on. Other dogs to train. Exercise again can be really simple. Go to my blog. The number one exercise every dog should do,
and there’s two exercises there. step overs, which you can have them step over when they’re walking outside, going in and out their door. As long as you don’t fall on trip and elevate stand they can do while they’re eating twice a day. So they’re doing exercise twice a day. I do like having elevated food bowls for dogs and a lot of people ask,
well, dogs never ate in the wild elevated. I’m like, yeah, but they lay down to eat. They don’t lay down to eat anymore. You know, they, they would non like a carcass. Sorry for you vegetarians out there. But that’s what they would do. They would lay and clean it up and they don’t do that anymore. So I like to elevate their FU bowls.
One, it puts pressure off their neck. ’cause I worked with a lot of dogs with neck injuries. And two, they’re getting a little workout. ’cause now their food bowl is elevated. So they’re working their glutes, ham, squats, biceps and triceps. And then if you put a little foam book under there, now they’re doing a little more work.
So that just helps because twice a day they’re doing exercise. So you’re getting ready for work, you’re coming home, cooking dinner, they’re eating their dinner or breakfast and they’re doing exercise at the same time. So scheduling conflicts, nah, you got this. And if your dog just does elevated stands twice a day and that’s it. Trust me, they will gain more body awareness and more body confidence.
I had an agility dog, I’ll share a story with you. Had an agility for each dog that I was working with, and I saw ’em get injured on the agility course. It was ilio. OI has a hip flexor muscle that they injured. So I went to check on ’em. I said like, Hey, you know, go check with your vet.
Make sure there’s nothing serious. And once they did that, it was all cleared, starting to heal. And then I gave them the number one exercise every dog should do. Elevated stands, step-ups. They did that religiously twice a day with their dog. And the next season their dog won. The agility four H competition. It warms my heart because when you and your dog work together,
you can do way more than just working with me once or twice a week, or a six week class. So there are a couple of ideas that you can work around your schedule so your dog can do exercise while you are cooking. Taking care of the kids. Again, puzzle toys, do an exercise while you’re gone with the kids. All kinds Of creative ideas,
thinking outside the box. I hope you’re getting the picture. Now. Creative thinking outside the box to help your dog exercise. It doesn’t mean you’re going to run a marathon or doing a five K with your dog. There are little micro changes daily that can make a big difference in building up their core hamstrings, glutes and quads. Share with me any creative things you’ve done with your dog around your schedule.
Love to hear it. Always love to hear how you guys are doing so that you can live your best life with your dog.
